we had our first art journal class on saturday. we think it was a success and we will be meeting up again next month to share ideas and inspiration.
below are some of our samples, not so much of journal pages, but of different ideas for the actual journals.
the journal below was made using a Pink Pig sketch pad. the covers & pages were taken off the binding for decoration, and then easily put back together using the bind it all machine.
The covers were painted using a light cream acrylic paint, left to dry and then painted with walnut inks. They were then decorated with strips of paper from the Kay & Co 'Isabella' 6x6 pad, and stamped using Hero Arts lace stamps and artprint brown Memories ink.
Throughout the book the pages were decorated using walnut inks and the same Hero Arts stamps. The pages are now ready to be written on, coloured, decorated and will give continuity to the journal...but most importantly they are no longer just a scary white page!
Pockets were made using the pages from the sketch book by simply folding the bottom up.You can make the pockets as deep as you like, just make sure the holes at the side match up!Use a circle punch or draw round a template to cut a semi-circle out of the front of the pocket. Lace & strips of paper were used behind the semi-circle to decorate the pocket, and the sides were stuck together using double sided tape.
This fabric journal was made using five pieces of calico cut approximately 6" x 12". The fabric was coloured using walnut inks and Stewart Gill paints, and decorated with paper and fabric scraps. The scraps were glued on and stitched on top, though this would not have been necessary. The inside pages were stamped with a Serendipty stamp and Memories Artprint Brown ink. The pieces of fabric were laid out and stitched together down the middle to make the spine of the book.
6x6 book board painted with light cream acrylic paint. It was stamped using Artprint Brown Memories ink and a Serendipity stamp, and decorated with 12x 12 paper from the Kay & Co McKEnna range. The pages for the book were cut from 12x12 paper from the same Kay & Co range It was punched and put together using the bind it all machine.
